Not that I have already attained this – that is, I have not already been
perfected – but I strive to lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus also laid
hold of me 3:13 Brothers and
sisters, I do not consider myself to have attained this. Instead I am
single-minded forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the
things that are ahead, 3:14

MUDEREDZI TO BE HONOURED AT 2012 OLYMPICS

HARARE - Former Zimbabwe athletics coach and sprinter Partson Muderedzi has been chosen along with Sportsman of the Century Carl Lewis to be part of Stars for Christ Events during the upcoming London 2012 Olympics. The current and former Olympians, who are all Christians, have been chosen to preach the word of God by Lay Witnesses for Christ International, an organisation of Christian Olympians headquartered in the United States of America. The former Zimbabwean athletics champion and coach’s appointment was announced in a letter from the Texas-based organisation. “Lay Witness for Christ International Board of Directors have unanimously endorsed its president Dr Sam Mings’ recommendation to appoint Zimbabwe’s Partson Muderedzi to serve on the Athlete and Coaches Executive Committee,” read part of the letter. Muderedzi, who will be in London for the outreach events between July 27 and August 14, expressed his delight at being accorded such an honour. “I feel honoured to be chosen to be part of this wonderful ministry of Olympians championing the cause of Christ,” the former Zimbabwean athletics star told the Daily News yesterday. “I am one of only four from Africa who have been selected. Our job will be to remind athletes from all over the world who will be participating in the London Olympics never to forget that the talent they have is God-given.” The Redcliff-based Muderedzi will be presented with an award by Olympian of the Century and Sportsman of the Century Carl Lewis during the course of Games. Other athletes named alongside Muderedzi include America Kevin Young, current 400 metres hurdles world record holder, Guinness, world record holder Bruce Crevier, Zambian boxing coach Elias Kataya, among other Christian sportspersons.
Amazing opportunity to SET the name of God up high
ReplyDeleteChunga is my inspiration —Mazivisa

When the season started, Dynamos’ prolific striker Takesure Chinyama grabbed the headlines after his hurricane swept the local football landscape with devastating effect.
Everything was about him, but unfortunately people took no notice of a man who was busy writing his own goal scoring curriculum vitae in Midlands — Nelson Mazivisa.
Regarded as a reject by FC Platinum who went on to loan him to Shabanie FC, Mazivisa surprised many when he banged in 13 goals, which saw him neutralising the Chinyama effect with stunning accuracy.
Chinyama has found the net seven times with last season’s top goal scorer, Rodrick Mutuma, banging in four goals this season.
“I pray that this be my year and I want to score between 25 and 30 goals. I have been looking at the statistics from the past where Moses Chunga scored so many goals and I want to emulate him,” said the 27-year-old striker.
Twelve goals at this stage of the campaign is no mean feat, considering that Mutuma needed two more goals from Mazivisa’s current tally to win the Golden Boot Award last season.
Mazivisa’s blistering start to the season has earned him a place in the national team, and he attributes all the success to God. “It is all about opportunity. I give credit to God for everything,” he said.
A journeyman by profession, Mazivisa horned his football skills at Kuwadzana 7 Primary School before proceeding to Kuwadzana 1 High School where his talent blossomed.
“I once played for Dynamos juniors before playing for Triangle United and then Kiglon. I was spotted by Solomon Kaseke, who then took me to Mimosa (now FC Platinum) where I played until I was loaned to Kiglon,” the gun slinger said.
It was after a six-month stint with Division One outfit Zim Alloys that the Shabanie Mine FC forward eventually moved to his current paymasters, who have had a great start to the season under nomadic gaffer Luke “Vahombe” Masomere.
“The supporters have been fantastic and they have been encouraging us. The coach too and my teammates have had a positive influence on me. We play as a team and I am part of it and so it is not about me always,” he said.
Like any professional footballer, Mazivisa dreams of a move to the European leagues in the future. “One day I want to play in Europe. Anywhere can do.” Mazivisa, a fringe Warriors player, harbours no hard feelings about being dropped from the squad that faced Burundi in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Instead, he was grateful for getting the call up despite failing to make the final 18. “The experience was good. I had no passport and that necessitated my exclusion. It was not about my performance in training. What I enjoyed most was meeting my local idol Peter Ndlovu. It was unbelievable,” Mazivisa said.
Mazivisa is married to Vanessa and has a daughter called Kimberly Jennifer. It might be early days yet, but one cannot take anything away from a man who has averaged a goal per game, and given his current rate, there is no doubt he will be over the elusive 20-goal mark come December.
The next time a goal is scored by the Chinda Boys, mind checking who is on target. It just might be Nelson Mazivisa — again!
