Ministry efforts through SPORT in Zimbabwe 2010-2015

Ministry efforts in Zimbabwe 2010-2015
PASSIONATE FOR GOD!!!

Training and discipleship efforts are still vital in the use of sports ministry to impact Zimbabwe with the gospel. Since the start of the sports ministry movement in Zimbabwe 5 years ago, three people have gone through ISLS, Peter Muruko, Tobias Sheta and Archieford Muchaka in their different capacities they all have assumed the task of equipping their fellow country-men and women on the use of sport and game in ministry.

Since 2010 we have done a number of envisioning in Harare, Bulawayo, Gweru, Banket, Chinhoyi, Mutare and Marondera. This has led to our level 1 and 2 trainings to those who were eager to participate more in the kingdom through sports ministry activities.

During the 2010 Soccer World Cup period Sports Coalition of Zimbabwe (SCOZ) in partnership with Operation Mobilisation Zimbabwe engaged pastors and their congregations to envision them on the use of sport ministry as an outreach tool to evangelise and disciple communities.

Amazing huge testimonies were born out of this partnership and to date this partnership has grown into a more intentional effort in that since 2011 for the coming five years OM and SCOZ have agreed to do levels 1 and 2 every April and August annually in-order to initially grow a well discipled leadership base which will in turn facilitate sports ministry movement in Zimbabwe. We have successfully done so in 2011 and this year and have seen a total of 30 level 1 and 2 leaders trained to date

It has been an exciting learning curve for us as the ministry facilitation team and even so for those who have gone through the training since last year. It has been a challenge and shift from the usual and traditional way of doing things. We testify to have grown and to still being transformed as we partner with different churches and other ministries for kingdom based discipleship with the Lord being our constant encouragement.

Success areas:
  • ·      We have seen various people support us in the training efforts, International Sports Coalition, Sports Outreach Africa, Sports for Christ South Africa, Zambia sports coalition, Operation Mobilisation, Hands Of Hope, Ambassadors in Sports, Youth for Christ, Gateway Christian College and various churches expressing interest to be envisioned and trained.
  • ·         Level 1 and 2 trainings in Harare and Bulawayo and Banket
  • ·         Regular monthly ministry engagements as the Lord provided opportunities

Pending focus areas:
  • ·         On the ground ministry team and constant prayer team
  • ·         A more intentional approach to discipling leaders who will in turn do the same to others
  • ·         Regular engagement with churches monthly
  • ·         Consistent resource and support base
  • ·         Self sustaining sports ministry city hubs
Our desire:

  • ·      Set-up a sports hub in five cities in Zimbabwe by 2015 Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, Masvingo and Gweru which will effectively facilitate sport ministry activities in these areas in and through the church
  • ·         Partner with and train other ministries to achieve effective discipleship through sports ministries programmes
  • ·         Engage schools to offer whole life coaching and team-building skills to physical education teachers
  • ·       Partner with churches, schools and other children and youth focused ministries to nurture and disciple children and young people in orphanages, churches and schools through sports ministry programmes
